Really I recommend the oven, set at 50-70C (125-160F) as it will dry out the phone completely. The rice might leave some water inside, and the longer time the water is inside the phone, the longer time it has to start corrode the circuit boards inside the phone. And everyone knows what happens when a car starts to rust.
So dry it as quickly as possible. But never heat it up to more than 70C (160F) as it will kill some of the components inside.

Just dropped my motorola cliq in the toilet (don’t question me how) and it took me about 5 minutes to take the battery out and submerge it in rice. I’m going to wait 24 hours and see if I’m as successful as you were. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

what about leaving it on the water heater? or if you still want the whole ethnic thing, your grandmother?

I know what happens with electronics+water.. it makes copper carbonate. It blocks the electricity. Happened to a remote control i have, but i had to manually get it out. To place a phone in rice after contact with alot of water is clever to do.

Please test the durabiity of the female USB connector, this is something you could conceivably do this after the device has been otherwise ruined.

  14. lifenexus says:

WOW! you forgot about a phone you left in rice? best thing i read all day!

  15. xxbia says:

    Haha! That’s cool.
When my N95 got soaked with water (well, spilled perfume), I panicked and buried it in rice. After a few days, it still wouldn’t work, so I just gave up (but left it in the rice) and used some other phone.

I forgot about it but found it again after a couple of months, chose to try it and voila it turned on!

  16. maxximuscool says:

The last test should be how well Nokia customer service responds to getting your phone repaired after you ruin it. Might be fascinating hearing the explanation to customer service just exactly what happened to it.
